Ride-Along Program
The West Plainfield Fire Department offers a Ride-Along Program to provide interested civilians with an educational opportunity to observe our fire and rescue operations firsthand.
Eligibility & Requirements
To ensure the safety and privacy of our personnel, patients, and the public, all participants must meet the following criteria:
- Age: Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Screening: All applicants are subject to a criminal history review.
- Health & Safety: Participants must be in good health and able to safely participate in fire apparatus activities.
- Confidentiality: All participants must sign an agreement to maintain the confidentiality of patient information, complying with HIPAA and CMIA regulations.
- Liability: A signed liability release and waiver is required prior to participation.
Program Expectations & Attire
Participants are expected to represent the Department professionally. Please adhere to the following guidelines:
- Conduct: Participants must follow all instructions from Department personnel and act in accordance with Department policies. The ride may be terminated at any time at the discretion of the Company Officer.
- Privacy: Participants must respect the privacy of citizens and may not record, photograph, or share details of incidents on social media.
- Dress Code: Please dress professionally. Acceptable attire includes collared shirts, slacks, and closed-toe shoes. Avoid tank tops, T-shirts, shorts, sandals, or ripped/torn clothing.
How to Apply
To request a ride-along, please complete the interest form below. Applications are reviewed by the Assistant Chief of Operations. If approved, you will be contacted to schedule a date based on availability, generally at least one week after the date of your application.
